538 members Number of electoral votes each state has is based on the number of congress people it possesses (both senate and house of reps.) Whichever candidate gets the most popular votes within a state win all that state’s electoral votes It is possible to get a majority of the electoral votes without a majority popular vote (Bush vs. Gore 2000, Trump v Clinton 2016)
