By increasing military armaments, purchasing weapons and ships from the west Even some women broke tradition and formed military brigades to fight the Shogun’s troops

The attack continued until the shogun was eventually defeated (1869) Edo surrendered without a battle Meiji moved into the Tokugawa castle and renamed the city, Tokyo The 250 year reign of the Tokugawa was over!
