Characteristics of a Civilization
In order to discuss any civilization, we must first start thinking like a historian and archeologist. You are now HISTORIANS! Time to think like one! In your notebooks, and QUIETLY to yourself, respond to: What are some questions historians ask?

Tenets of Civilization
Stable Food Supply – civilizations must produce enough food for their citizens to survive Social Structure – civilizations have a complex organization that includes its citizens having different jobs and social levels Government – civilizations have a system of ruling that direct people’s behavior and makes life orderly.

Religion – all civilizations have a religious system that includes a set of beliefs, usually in a god or gods, combined with forms of worship The Arts – civilizations have highly developed cultures that include forms of expressions such as painting, pottery, architecture, and music

Technology – all civilizations create new forms of technology that include tools and inventions. These make an aspect of life easier. Writing – Civilizations have a highly developed written language that includes writing about beliefs, laws, +and/or daily life.
