Molecular Biology Vocabulary

naturally occurring inorganic substances that regulate many chemical reactions in the body. Examples include Zinc, calcium, and iron. Minerals organic molecules that your body needs in small quantities to help regulate body functions. Examples include Vitamin A and Vitamin C. Vitamins

A nutrient that is made of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen atoms
A nutrient that is made of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen atoms. Carbohydrates include sugars (glucose), starches (which can be broken down into glucose), and cellulose. Carbohydrates are used for energy or as structural materials. Carbohydrate A nutrient that is made of amino acids. Proteins control chemical activity of a cell and support growth and repair. Protein

Lipids A nutrient that includes fats, oils, and waxes. Lipids are mainly used for energy, energy storage and as structural material in living things. Glucose A sugar molecule that is a major energy source for most cells, produced by the process of photosythesis.
