2 Audience Who the text is intended for
The people who view, listen, or read a text Creators of text always have a specific audience in mind To determine the intended audience, look at the demographics (age, gender, etc.) of the people in the text.

3 Purpose The reason a text has been created
There are many reasons texts are created but the main purposes of media texts are: To entertain To inform To sell or persuade

4 Message What is the text trying to tell you? EXPLICIT MESSAGE:
What the text directly tells you IMPLICIT MESSAGE The hidden message that is not directly stated

Who is the intended audience? Why? What is the explicit message? What is the implicit (implied) message? Explain. How does the video use contrast to convey the message? Questions: Courage to Try Answer questions in your notebook Don’t forget to include the date, and the title of the selection (“Courage to Try)

8 Courage to try Assignment
Your poster must include: A quotation encouraging young people to never give up! Images, font, and color to support the message. The use of contrast to support the message Posters must be neatly presented. We will work on posters during Thursday and Friday’s classes (September 22 & 23) Create a poster encouraging young people to keep trying in the face of failure.
