October 23, 1961 the great Laurie Halse Anderson was born in Northern New York state. She didn’t leave she stayed in her home state and now has a family of four children and a dog.

Senior year of high school she was an exchange student in Denmark. When she returned to the U.S. she continued her education in college and went on to receive her Associate’s and Bachelor’s degree.

Laurie says she thinks that if she had a different dad she would not be the writer she is today. Not only was her father a minister but he was a story teller and poem writer. He inspired her and influenced her to go into linguistics . Being a ministers daughter she got to be a rebel and practice outside the box.
