1 Line Graphs

2 What is a Line Graph? Display data or information that changes continuously over time They allow us to see overall trends such as an increase or decrease in data over time

3 What is a Double Line Graph?
A double line graph has two lines connecting points to show a continuous change. Just like a line graph, the lines can ascend and descend in a double line graph. A double line graph has two axes. The x-axis of a double line graph shows the occurrences and the categories being compared over time and the y-axis represents the scale.

4 When do you use a Line Graph?
When you want to show data variables and trends very clearly They help to make predictions about the results of data not yet recorded. They can also be used to display several dependent variables against one independent variable.

5 reading a line graph Look at the title
Look at each axis to see the titles Choose a point and look at where it sits on the “X” and “Y” axis. This tells you what that point is telling you Example – What was the temperature in NYC on day 5? Find day 5 along the “X” (bottom) axis Find the point on the Day 5 line and see where it hits on the “Y” (side) axis It was 59 degrees on Day 5

6 Creating a line graph Step 1 – Identify the variables
Step 2- Label each axis Step 3- Determine the variable range Step 4- Number each axis Step 5- Plot the data points Step 6- Draw the line Step 7- Title the graph
