When trying to identify the protagonist of a story, look for the central character or the one who is involved in the main conflict of the plot. In historical fiction the setting is a real place during an actual time in history, and may involve a significant event from history, as well. Characteristics - Place (where the story happens) Time (when the story takes place) Examples Picture setting (historical)
