Format is double spaced (no need to hit ‘enter’ button twice…right?) No “I” statements (I think, In my opinion…)

3 Reminders for ADH Essay
Thesis Needs to make a specific claim about text NOT state a fact about the plot Should reference the story (In Isben’s A Doll’s House…) Should answer or explain the question being asked in the assignment Must be able to be proven by the characters action, words, or decisions

4 Reminders for ADH Essay
Good Thesis that makes a claim In Isben’s A Doll’s House, Nora’s attempt to preserve her marriage with Torvald by lying, actually makes her realize the inequality and shallowness of her marriage and life, which justifies her leaving Torvald. Bad Thesis that states a fact In Isben’s A Doll’s House Nora leaves because she is afraid of raising her kids without educating herself and learning about the world on her own. Isben’s uses the Helmer’s living room as a metaphor for Nora and Torvald’s marriage in order to show how appearances do not always represent reality Isben uses the Helmer’s living room as a metaphor to show appearance versus reality.
