1 Warm Up Be prepared to discuss!
Objective: Scientists will describe a mock crime scene by creating a crime scene report. What is the topic? What will you be doing? Why is this important? How will you know if you have done well?

3 Mock Crime Scene Report
May be handwritten, typed, or a combination May be done in the format given, or you may create a PowerPoint presentation. One report is sufficient per group. However, if you do NOT want a group graded assignment, you may write your own.

4 Title Page First and Last Name of all Team Members Establish:
Lead Investigator/Evidence Collector Photographer Note Taker Crime Scene Sketcher Additional roles: Assistant to any of the above Class Period Agency (Team Name): Appropriate for an investigative team. Case Number Date

5 Crime Scene Entry Log Sheet
You may use creativity with this, HOWEVER, your names should appear as entry on 2/13/19 and/or 2/14/19 at appropriate times for your class period. Reason for entry could include: evidence collection, eyewitness interviews, crime scene sketch, crime scene photography You may add additional names/titles if you feel that a specialist (Forensic Entomologist, Forensic Psychiatrist, etc.) is necessary.

6 Photo Log Sheet Complete the photo log sheet Cut and paste photos
Description of photo

7 Sketch Artist Select a rough sketch already done from your group. Ask Ms. Reed to copy it. Cut and paste it on the front page. On the back of this page, use a ruler and pencil. Identify boundaries. Use a scale (i.e. 1mm on the paper is 1 inch in real life). Include distances between objects. Include sizes of objects.

8 Crime Scene Notes Describe the scene, including detailed information and location of each piece of evidence. What are the surroundings like?

9 Evidence Item Recovery Log
Using the evidence markers (from YOUR photos), name the evidence, type of container, and reason for container. Add additional evidence that you may not have photographed

10 Mock Crime Scene—Final Report
Complete the initial information, victim information, and ME/Medical summary Cause of death: toxic shock, septic shock, heart attack, blunt force trauma, severe blood loss, etc. Manner of death: Homicide, Natural causes, Accidental, Suicide, Undetermined Brief Narrative—what was observed? Conclusions—based on evidence, what conclusions have been made?

11 A few things to keep in mind…
Be consistent! If you’re working together in a group, your group MUST agree on names, dates, times, etc. and use them throughout the report Be creative! There is room for creative license in this. Be a story teller! All parts should be completed. It is best if you separate the work to be done and assign someone to do that section IF you are working in a group.
