1 Crime Scene Investigation Expectations and Criteria

2 Team Leader/Notetaker  Recorded the Crime Scene Number  Make sure all the appropriate forms are filled out  Document all observations at scene  Document all conditions at scene  Document all jobs of your team members  Documented all the evidence and numbers associated with them  Documents the position of all evidence

3 Reconstruction Paragraph based solely on evidence/facts (Team Leader/Notetaker)  Remember to include what possibly could have happened on the night in question  Where do you go from here?  Any promising leads?

4 Sketch Creator- Rough Sketch Completion  Perimeter is measured  North is labeled on sketch  Draw all doors and windows in proper locations  All pieces of evidence are measured from 2 fixed points.  Use proportional squares or circles to represent the locations of different objects in the room.  Assign each piece of evidence a letter and provide a key at the bottom of the sketch providing each letter and a description of that piece of evidence  Draw 2 dashed lines from 2 fixed points to all objects and label actual distances above lines  Everything is drawn in and sketch person does not have to ask or go back to the Crime Scene.

5 Sketch Creator- Final Sketch Completion  Use the “rough sketch” you made of the crime scene to draw a final sketch  Neatly draw with ink (permanent marker or something similar) on a piece of paper  Final drawing must be to scale  Label North on the drawing  Draw proportional squares and circles that represent physical evidence  Assign each piece of evidence a letter and provide a key at the bottom of the sketch providing each letter and a description of that piece of evidence  Must be able to see it in the “court”  Drawing includes all evidence

6 Evidence Recorder and Collect0r  Make sure that all evidence is documented by photographer, sketch person and notetaker.  All evidence and fingerprints are collected.  Appropriately collect and package evidence to maximize evidence integrity.  Describe evidence and its location on appropriate bag or envelope.  Sign and date evidence container/maintain chain of custody. Maintain evidence log.  Use appropriate protective equipment (gloves).  Fill out Evidence Collection Table.  All evidence is put into the Forensics bag and taken to the classroom.

7 Photographer Prepare a photographic log that records all photographs and a description and location of evidence Took overall photographs from the 4 points of the room Photographed possible points of entry and exit Photographed all evidence Photographed all fingerprints Take examination quality photographs Scale is present in examination quality photographs All unneeded photos have been deleted Photos saved to shared drive and used

8 Grading Criteria Participation, seriousness and maturity during the CSI Your role: Did you meet all the criteria??? Did you do a good job???
