5. Important Decisions
Compromise of Allowed California to be a free state and enacted the fugitive slave law
Kansas-Nebraska Act- Divided a territory into Kansas and Nebraska and allowed them to decide “free or slave” state
Dred Scott Case- Slave Dred Scott sued for his freedom. Lost. Courts said slaves were property and could not sue

Fort Sumter- held by the North, South fired on the fort, North forced to surrender the fort, beginning of the war
Gettysburg- 3 day battle, Lee is defeated and forced to retreat, 50,000 dead/wounded
Appomattox Court House- Lee surrendered to Grant April 9,1865
13th Amendment- outlaw slavery
