HOW TO COMPOST By: Joey C. Good

What is COMPOST? Compost is when people throw food scraps or anything made from plants into a big pile, then the compost turns into soil: COMPOSTING.

What can be composted? Things that can be composted are: Napkins; Paper Towels; Coffee Grounds & Tea Bags; and Food Scraps.

What CAN NOT be composted?
Things you should NOT compost are: Meat; Bones; Coffee Cups; Dairy; Food Cooked In Oil; etc. (Meat and dairy smell bad and can attract animals, but technically you could compost them if you want.)

Why should we COMPOST? If we throw things that can be composted in the trash, the compost will end up in a LANDFILL. The nutrients from the compost will then mix with the gases the trash in the landfill emits and create METHANE, which will then cause GLOBAL WARMING. Also, the landfills are getting too full of trash and compost, and people are even polluting the ocean, which is why there’s a floating mass of garbage twice the size of the U.S., so… COMPOST!

What is in our waste Joey - great job! I enjoyed reading your presentation…..
