2 OBJECTIVE I CAN describe the qualities of a literary argument essay about Bud’s Rules. I CAN analyze how evidence from the text supports a claim in the Steven Jobs model essay.

3 Think About It Think about a time that you were in an argument with something. What causes an argument? If a written argument is where the author makes a claim, supports it with reasons, and proves those reasons with evidence, what can you infer is a literary argument?

4 Literary Argument: Defined
A literary argument is a piece of writing that makes a claim about a literary text and uses details and evidence to support that claim.

5 A Strong Literary Argument
Makes a claim Chooses text evidence that supports the claim Explains how each piece of evidence supports the claim Introduces the claim Makes it coherent Makes it logical

6 Analysis: Steve Jobs model Essay
What claim is the author making? What is the purpose of the body paragraphs?
