Monday: Poetry/Drawing Conclusions • Determine theme or central idea of a text Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative and connotative meanings. • Analyze how a drama’s or poem’s form or structure (e.g., soliloquy, sonnet) contributes to its meaning.

Choose one prompt to respond to and explain with detail: What did you learn over spring break? Explain the lesson. What are your goals for quarter 4? Explain a detailed plan on how to achieve them.

3 Turn in language arts worksheets. Show me your spring break entries!
Monday: Poetry Part 2 Turn in language arts worksheets. Show me your spring break entries! What did you read? Planner Finish poetry packet by tomorrow.

4 Read through intro & vocab.
Monday: Poetry Part 2 Read through intro & vocab. Predict what the poems will be about based on the title. Discuss the first poem. What’s the poem about? How does the speaker use literature devices to contribute to meaning? Due tomorrow what you don’t get done in class.

5 Daily Writing: Leadership 4/2/13

Tuesday: MCA Focus Hand in poetry packet & show me your journaling over the break. Review midterm. Postponing debate until after MCA test… Feel free to hand in more reject/accept forms! Wednesday: MCA Focus Hand in your current events worksheet. Take Segment 1 test (read yesterday). Go back to the passage and: UNDERLINE and label. Write a brief explanation for WHY you chose each answer. Read silently if you finish early. Review Segment 1 answers as a class. Planner Quiz Friday Finish 2nd segment 1 practice test by tomorrow.

Choose one prompt to respond to and explain with detail: What things do you think are beautiful? Why? What things do you think are ugly? Why?

10 Hand in the test prep homework from yesterday .
Thursday: MCA Focus Hand in the test prep homework from yesterday . Today, we’ll move on to Segment 3. Planner Finish “The House with Nobody in it” test prep by tomorrow. Bring in a book to read tomorrow! You should do this EVERY day, but I’ll be checking tomorrow. Make sure to bring the book to your test prep class as well. They will give you participation points for reading.

Friday: MCA Focus No talking during the quiz! Please raise your hand when you’re done. Segment 2 practice test is your “quiz” this week. This one I WILL grade and we won’t go over today. If you have good explanations, I may give you partial credit if you get something wrong. When you’re done and I’ve collected your quiz: Work on vocab worksheet FIRST!
