General Rules Clean area free of unneeded objects Do not play in the laboratory Keep equipment in good working order

Heat Be aware of all open flames. Flames are difficult to see on Bunsen Burners Never touch flames Never touch the surface of the hotplate When heating chemicals, point test tubes away from any people

3 Safety in the Science Lab
Electricity Never use household current without proper supervision Remember that electricity flowing in wires causes the wires to become hot. Do not burn yourself.

Chemicals Never smell chemicals directly Never taste unknown chemicals Remember that even the simplest of chemicals can cause hazardous reactions Always do chemical tests under adult supervision Always wash your hand after working with chemicals

5 Other rules…. 1. DO NOT wear loose sleeves. 2. DO NOT wear shorts.
3. DO NOT wear sandals. 4. NO food or beverages. 5. NO GUM chewing. 6. DO NOT leave experiments unattended.

6 Continuation… 7. KNOW the location of the exits, safety showers, eye wash, fire blankets, fire extinguishers, and telephone. 8. NO running/fooling around. 9. Keep aisles clear. 10. Always wash your hands after the experiment.
