P3

P3 Plan three types of market research (in future tense as though you are about do conduct the research) e.g. I plan to ask 30 people for my questionnaire on Brentwood High Street. REMEMBER: your plan must be feasible – you will have to conduct it!! You need to complete the template available on the website.

P3 Include: Where and when you will conduct the research
How many people you will ask How you will choose your respondents (sampling method) If you are conducting field trials, how many free samples will you give What questions you will ask. Remember, if you haven’t asked open questions in your questionnaire then don’t say you plan to ask open questions! Similarly, field trials / focus groups should consist of mainly open questions (that’s the whole point) How you will record / gather the information

Sampling Random Sampling Everyone has an equal chance of being selected Systematic Random Sampling Similar to the above and requires a list of members in a particular population (e.g. living in Brentwood). You then question every tenth person for example. Stratified Sampling Ensures different groups are properly represented and then random sampling can take affect. For example, to ensure you have an equal representation of men and women surveyed, your sample needs to contain 50% men and 50% women respondents.

Sampling Cluster Sampling Split population into clusters of people with similar interests/characteristics Quota Widely used in market research. The population is first divided into groups by age, gender, income levels etc. The interviewer then asks the required number of people within each category.
