4 Electoral College An elector is one of the people chosen from each state and the District of Columbia who formally select the president and vice-president The Group of all the electors is called the Electoral College

5 Electoral College Total of 538 Electoral Votes – each state has a number of electors equal to the number of senators and representatives it has in Congress (NC has 15 electoral votes) New York – 29 California – 55 Florida – 29 Texas – 38 Washington DC - 3 A candidate must receive 270 electoral votes to win

Quality of each group’s pamphlet and explanation of their campaign platform – 10 pts. 2. Quality of the group’s poster – effort and if you think the poster would help draw people in to vote for their candidate – 10 pts. 3. Quality of the group’s speech – is it persuasive? Do you think the group did a good job explaining their candidate’s positions on the major issues? – 10 pts. 4. Quality of the group’s campaign ad/commercial – is the video persuasive? Does it explain the candidate’s stance on the major issues? – 10 pts. TOTAL Points out of 40 – highest total for each party receives your vote

12 TOD – March 4 Answer the following questions on the same post it as the warm up: 1. Why do you think the United States has an electoral college? 2. Do you think the United States should still have an electoral college?
