7 Beliefs of Autocracy 1. Leader serve the goals of the state to bring about - political stability, economic growth, and military power 2. Most people not capable of governing themselves

9 Pure(Model) Dictatorship
1. Decisions made by elite 2. No freedom (speech or assembly) 3. No political or legal equality 4. No political competition

10 TYPES 1. Traditional absolute monarch - hereditary - no opposition 2. Military - armed force ruled - take power by coup d’etat - depend on military and privileged members

11 3. Nationalist One Party State - former colonies (africa) those who lead for independence have assumed role of power 4. Ideologist One Party State - ruled based on political doctrines(beliefs) ex: communism

12 Techniques: Need to have obedience of citizens to rule
if not they use: 1. Force / Terror secret police 2. Indoctrination control media, education brainwashing propaganda

blame problems on someone else (scapegoating) - ex. Jews 4. Controlled Participation people can give a voice with out giving a real say ex: voting in the former USSR
