Copy down the vocabulary and definition into your notebook under the heading “Daily Vocabulary” RECONSTRUCTION – the reorganization of and rebuilding of the former Confederate states after the Civil War AMNESTY – the granting of pardon to a large number of persons; protection from prosecution for an illegal act FREEDMEN – a freed man from slavery

14TH AMENDMENT – made African Americans citizens guaranteed equal protection under the law IMPEACH – to formally charge a public official with misconduct in office POLL TAX – a tax of a fixed amount per person that had to be paid before a person could vote

4 Warm Up (2.2.17) 15TH AMENDMENT – guaranteed African Americans the right to vote INTEGRATION – ending separation of different races and bring into equal membership in society SEGREGATION – the separation or isolation of a race, class, or group LYNCHING – causing death to a person by the illegal action of a mob
