We need one volunteer to come up and stand with their back facing the whiteboard.
They then need to guess who they are.
They need to do this by asking the class questions – the class can only respond with Yes or No answers.
Can they do it in under 20 questions?
Lead into our key concept of angels this lesson through the ‘what am I’ activity.

6. What are Angels?
Each group is going to be given a quote and/or information about the nature of angels and what they do on sugar paper.
You need to annotate around your quote/information and be ready to feedback to the class your findings.
Choose one person in your group to be an envoy to see what other groups have found out about angels to feedback to your group.
Note – give each student in the group the role of an envoy which means they can visit other groups to gather some new information to help them. This won’t need to take long, 3-5 mins. You could add in here angels are made of light, they have no freewill, it is one of the 6 articles of faith, all men. Your deeds will be recorded from puberty onwards, you are never alone in Islam as an angel is always with you.

What are angels?
For each (person), there are angels in succession, before and behind him. They guard him by the Command of Allah.
‘Praise be to God, Creator of the heavens and earth, who made angels messengers with two, three, four pairs of wings.’ (Qur’an 35:1)
‘We have appointed none but angels as wardens of the fire; and We have made their number a trial for the unbelievers’
(Qur’an 74:31) 
And the Book shall be placed, then you will see the guilty fearing from what is in it, and they will say: Ah! woe to us! what a book is this! it does not omit a small one nor a great one, but numbers them (all); and what they had done they shall find present there (recorded by the angels); and your Lord does not deal unjustly with anyone.

Draw out from students that some angels are guardian angels who take care of each person throughout their lives, some angels write in the ‘book of deeds’ everything that each person thinks, says or does which will presented as evidence to God on the Day of Judgement, angels are messengers – they can receive God’s word directly from him and pass it onto humans as angels are pure and sinless, the angel of death and his helpers take people’s souls to God, some angels guard the gates of hell.

Examples of Angels
You are going to visit three different stations to find out about the role of three different angels in Islam:
Jibril
Mika’il
Israfil
Students need to fill in the relevant information from each station. Approx 5 mins per station. Tell students to ignore the top trumps on the other side for now!

10. Angel Top Trumps! Cut out your three angel cards.
Read the top trump rankings each angel has been given by the RE Department.
Play a game of Top Trumps:
Instructions:
Shuffle the cards and deal them face down. Each player might not get the same amount of cards. The players all hold their cards so that they can only see the top one. Player 1 picks a category from the top card in their pile and reads out the score value. The other players then read out their value for the same item. The player with the highest value wins and takes all the losing cards and places them on the bottom of their pile. It is then their turn to pick a category from the next card. 
Note: To win your card you must be able to explain why you think the angel has been given that particular ranking.
Mini-plenary Top Trumps: Get students to cut out their three cards. On the back the three angels have been given top trump style rankings – do they agree with the rankings? In pairs students need to play a quick game of top trumps – this will be very quick as there are only three cards so they could have a couple of goes. The player with the highest ranking for the category wins the card – IMPORTANT – in order to win the card they have to give a reason to justify why they think their particular angel has been given that particular ranking.
