2 Review from last week How do you Know? What is Science?
Observations/Inferences  Purpose, questioning, describing, explaining

3 Volunteer… In case I have to step out
Points for responsibility (character) But if things aren’t running as well as they should be when I get back, you’ll lose a point…

4 Students Will be Able to…
-Explain how class values and individual goal values will be tracked; students can check if they were marked for performing behaviors valued already -Understand the class vision and how they will live up to it throughout the year -Create their own vision bags and discuss what they as individuals and a class want for the future. -Connect their own dreams to those of other students and the class vision -Discuss their own role in science (Mantra & poem model) -Begin to connect their role in science to their place in the universe at a much larger scale

13 Science & Miss K Cares, passions, motives, drive
Swirling around are the questions why. This curiosity fuels my life, a bred science-lover Where the name of the game is to do better, reach higher, to new things discover To me, not only to describe what we see, But what we feel, how we connect, how we strive to be Because to me, science is part of who I am A reason why I’ve moved across the land And in my opinion, it’s time that together we band Because these problems we face are far too grand These injustices I’ve learned are shocking, I won’t stand For a nation for freedom who denies a fellow man With science we learn about each other, What we need, what we love, what we all come to desire And not just for us people, because all life is truly sacred But to support those without voices, without names, whose lives are taken for granted My voice is a beacon For this mission flag I wave, Is too important, too vital to fall to a grave. Science and math are literally everywhere But to a higher calling, I challenge, the answer is out there.

14 CLASS VISION! As scientists, we are powerful enough to realize our impact on the environment, our place in history, and our community’s needs. We use our curiosity, creativity, and scientific tools to map, lead, make connections, and better express (verbally, visually, and in writing) phenomena and the state of the world around us to better understand, respect, and impact it positively in the long-term.

15 Mantra Today is a great day for science because: science is power.
You are powerful because: I always make a difference.

16 Ending tasks Summary Feedback Frontier/ Clean-up Crew
HW: 1st written reflection on own role in science Take home: 1st parent letter home What is your place in science? How can you use it? Where is it around you? How can you interact with it? How large a scale should you use?
