School starts at 7:50 so please make sure your child arrives on time. If you know your child will be absent please call the absentee line ( ) or report it via the school website. Readers Workshop: shared reading (poems and reader’s theater), guided reading (flexible groups), independent reading and read alouds Writers Workshop: generating ideas, develop independent and fluent writing, editing and revising skills Word Study: understand patterns and spelling rules, recognize “oddballs.” Word Study will begin in October. 6

10 Grading Policy Please keep in mind that information about a child’s achievement and development may be gathered in a number of ways. Some techniques are: Observations Discussions/conferences Work samples Verbal and nonverbal participation Formal assessments, such as quizzes or tests Common grade level assessments

11 Learning Targets Standard: Math SOL 2.4

12 Grading Policy All assignments will be marked for grade using a letter system of E/4 (Exceeds the standard) M/3 (Meets the standard) P/2 (Progressing toward the standard) B/1 (Below the standard) Some assignments are also marked with an effort grade (O, S, N). 13 Homework This year I am going to do a tic tac toe approach for homework. It will need to be turned in monthly. It will focus on core character traits. Also, students need to be reading nightly for at least 15 minutes and practicing their math facts. 13

LCPS does not allow any food or non-food items to celebrate birthdays. Donation of a library book. Class Parties Winter Celebration End of Year 15

16 Medication If your child requires medication, please give it directly to our school nurse. The children are not allowed to give it to the nurse. Children are NOT allowed to have medication in class. BANDAIDS, BANDAIDS, BANDAIDS-Please donate Tylenol 16

17 Other Notes: Reading assessments began first weeks of school.
Conference information will be sent out at a later date via Sign Up Genius. Word Study & “Official Homework” starts in October. Students can read each night.
