3. SNOMED CT
New coding system to be used across Paediatric Services by 2020
Will be used in parallel with ICD initially
All Clinical Systems providers will be mandated by NHS Digital to use SNOMED CT
How does that affect you?
Coding at point of delivery of care i.e. clinician entered data
Better descriptions of clinical situations including tentative diagnoses
Opportunity to ensure all surgical procedures coded accurately
Can be applied in future for clinical outcomes databases – no secondary data entry!

Linked with NHS Digital to validate coding that exists
Lists to go out to sub-specialty interest groups to ensure all procedures have applicable codes
Achieve a full Paediatric Surgery SNOMED CT dictionary for GBI by 2020.
