4 Learning Objectives: Aspire – To be able to apply practical examples to the four different types of guidance. Challenge – Understand the four different types of guidance and their advantages and disadvantages.

5 Task 1 Number 1 Number 2 You are going to demonstrate to your partner throwing a tennis ball against a wall with your right hand from 2-3 yards away from the wall and catching with your left. You should then repeat the action until the ball is dropped. What do you think this type of guidance is called? What do you think the advantages and disadvantages of this type of guidance are? Without demonstrating you are going to describe the action of bouncing a ball in your right hand across your body and catching with your left hand. You should get them to repeat the action until the ball is dropped or missed. What do you think this type of guidance is called? What do you think the advantages and disadvantages of this type of guidance are?

6 What is guidance? When a teacher or a coach teaches a new skill to a student or seeks to develop the skills of an experienced performer, they need to decide the best way to transmit the knowledge necessary for effective performance. There are FOUR main types of guidance: Visual – a coach demonstrating a set shot in basketball Verbal – a teacher telling a pupil to watch the ball when receiving a pass in rugby. Manual – a coach supporting a gymnast in a vault. Mechanical – a learner swimmer using armbands/a trampolinsit using a harness.

7 Task 2 -Understanding the four different types of guidance and their advantages and disadvantages.
Using the transferable skills structure you are going to identify the following for the four types of guidance: Definition/explanation of the type of guidance. Key points for consideration. Advantages Disadvantages. Visual – as a team Verbal – with your shoulder partner Manual and mechanical – on your own
