Background Parque del Plata
Located in the south east of Uruguay with a population of 11,050 inhabitants It counts with Elementary and High schools in the south and in the north as well as a Special School for children with disabilities in the South part. Children from this Special School enjoy different activities: going on trips, on camp sites, cooking, doing handcrafts, having music therapy sessions Parque del Plata also counts with a Summer Theatre which is used for multiple purposes and activities

Atlántida Atlántida is also located in the south east of my country with a population of 10,298 inhabitants It counts with schools in the south and in the north with the particularity that the private ones are in the South area It also has a Center for children with disabilities in the South offering them varied activities to do except languages There is a neighboring headquarter which is used for multiple activities such as workshops, classes, social activities

The South

Objectives Short term objective:
To present the project of English classes for children with and without disabilities in the North of Parque del Plata and Atlántida Change children and parents’ attitude towards education Children enjoy their classes Long term objective: Change their future prospects Reach a higher number of students after 20 years

Project Period The period for this project would start in April 2019 after Easter Week and it would finish on December This would be the short term objective.

Target Areas The target areas are located in the north of Parque del Plata and Atlántida. Far away from capital Montevideo banks, offices there, few buses, flooded streets in winter (rain), big disadvantage for commuters, a few activities for retired or PWID people. Temporary jobs (only in high season). Accessibility improvements in sidewalks and buses, more activities.

Target Population The target population is children without disabilities and with intellectual disabilities between 8 and 12 years old distributed in groups of a maximum of 12 students.

Strategy 1 Recruit teachers
Retired teachers or native speakers living in that area Noticeboards in small shops, supermarkets, pet shops, gas stations, places where people pay their bills, street markets, neighborhood magazines, social nets

Strategy 2 Recruit children
To organize a meeting with the neighbors explaining the project To coordinate a suitable day for the participants to announce the place, the time and the reason of the meeting To organize a ruffle of a pie, a cake prepared by one of the neighbors. A football game for the people who attend to the meeting with friends performing as referees. Bad weather conditions, not enough number of participants

Monitoring and Evaluation
Do it every 3 months the first year through: Reports, visits, meetings, telephone calls, s, etc. Every 6 months the following years, through: reports, meetings, surveys, etc. Done by Mayors or neighbors’ commissions. Pre-post evaluation through questionnaire Final outcome

Documentation Classes materials, notebooks, evaluation tests, pictures, medical diagnosis in case of children with disabilities, a set course syllabus, students’ reports, etc
