2 Year 11 English: Text Response
Area of Study: Reading and Responding Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird. Formative assessments are critical, summative assessment also takes place in class in exam conditions.

3 Students will need to demonstrate key knowledge and skills – on completion of the unit, students should be able to identify and discuss key aspects of a set text and to construct a response.

4 All students are expected to read To Kill A Mockingbird before commencement of the unit. Classroom resources: Video, Handouts, Analysis materials.

5 Assessment of student work occurred throughout the lesson as well as through the collection of their homework. Studies show that formative assessment is the most important aspect of student learning – they are able to transform with guidance before summative assessment takes place.

7 Relationships. Trust. Teachers need to know their students – not only to know how they learn but to also know what they can say without upsetting their students.
