1 Interaction with TG DATA and INSPIRE use case
EMODnet Chemistry 3 annual meeting Roskilde, February 7th, 2018 Alessandra Giorgetti Elena Partescano

2 TG DATA – Lines of Work Existing dataflows, actors & links: mapping ongoing initiatives, stakeholders and data that are collected and used within MSFD implementation Common vocabularies: agreement on vocabularies to use for MSFD data Common standards and formats: how to accommodate common standards for MSFD needs (e.g. INSPIRE, EMODnet/SeaDataNet) Grids: use of grids for assessments and links to the MRUs MRUs: definition of subdivisions within the subregions *Technical proposals depending of the maturity level of criteria/parameters & RSC assessment progresses WISE-marine: access and visualisation of reported data, including indicators Implementation of Art.19.3: technical solutions that can be addressed Link with MSP Directive: how MSFD data can be used for MSP Directive implementation 5/5/2019

3 Recommendations for the publication of datasets under MSFD Article 19
Art states that the data and information resulting from the initial assessment and from the monitoring programmes should be available, in accordance with the INSPIRE Directive standards and rules, to the European Environment Agency (EEA) and European Commission 3

4 Recommendations for the publication of datasets under MSFD Article 19
TG DATA proposed a series of examples to evaluate the feasibility of compliance with INSPIRE: Example of nutrients: use of Environmental Monitoring Facilities (EF) vs use of Oceanographic Geographical Features (OF) & Observations and Measurements (O&M) data models (the use case is developed by EMODnet in collaboration with MEDCIS) Use of Sea Regions: example on Marine Litter (an example will be developed using an OSPAR dataset) Use of Grids: example on Species distribution (species distribution and Habitats & biotopes) 4

5 Example to be included in TG-DATA document
Source Data Representations Data used for this case study were provided by Croatian Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries (IOF). The original metadata format is the Common Data Index (CDI), while data are provided in Ocean Data View (ODV) format. Some information are described using standard BODC vocabularies. For the purposes of this exercise, examples have been developed using Nitrite and Phosphate data. 5

6 Example to be included in TG-DATA document
Mapping from source to target The mapping between the source data and the target EF, OF and O&M schemas has been developed adopting and adapting the solution developed by SeaDataCloud (see SeaDataCloud Deliverable Part a “Review of data formats, also considering INSPIRE data models (O&M)”)
