The effects of dobutamine and omecamtiv mercabil on time-dependent elastance were compared in dogs with heart failure induced by chronic rapid cardiac pacing together with localized myocardial infarction. TE[max] and TE[min] at baseline are shown, along with the changes induced on treatment. Whereas the conventional inotrope dobutamine increased stroke volume from baseline via increases in the rate of left ventricular pressure increase, omecamtiv mecarbil prolonged ejection time in the absence of alterations in this rate.
