5 The Academy School Mission Statement
The mission of the Academy school is to provide students a safe and nurturing educational experience that values, respects, and responds to individual students’ educational, social, and emotional needs while helping students pursue their goals of college and career readiness in an alternative setting.

6 What is Receivership? Cohort 2 Struggling School-The Superintendent receiver will have broad authority to set and manage school improvement plans Schools must have public hearings and community engagement teams to involve families and neighborhood stakeholders in recommending and implementing improvements to the schools improvement plan.

7 The Academy School- Cohort 2 School
Cohort 2 School Identification: Priority Schools that were not in Receivership, but are identified as CSI schools for under Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), will be in Receivership Cohort 2. Cohort 2 Demonstrable Improvement (DI) Indicators: Cohort 2 schools WILL NOT receive DI indicators for They will be provided with Level 1 Indicators and options for Level 2 Indicators in the Spring of Assigned/chosen indicators will be effective for the school year.

8 How a School Exits Receivership
Cohort 1 and Cohort 2 Schools: Schools will be removed from Receivership at the end of the school year in which the school is not identified as a Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) School. Making DI does not determine whether a school is placed into or removed from Receivership. The first opportunity for removal will be as of June 2021 based on and school year results

9 Parent and Community Notification Requirements
Annual notice to parents and guardians of receivership status. Public meeting held annually for purposes of discussing the performance of the school and the concept of receivership. All documents are translated into students native language an interpreters are made available at public meetings. An established Community Engagement Team (CET).

10 Community Engagement Team
Partnering for Success- CET includes, but is not limited to, the school principal, parents and guardians, teachers and other school staff and students. Meetings take place once a month during the school day and are scheduled to maximize stakeholders participation. Charged with reviewing the School Improvement Grant (SIG) Project Plan and developing recommendations for improvement of the school. CET works to solicit input regarding the recommendations through public engagement. The team will present its recommendations periodically to school leadership, and to the Receiver, as applicable.

11 Next Steps for The Academy School
CET meeting was held 2/7/19- from that meeting the team is working to build recommendations and revisions to the previously submitted School Improvement Grant (SIG). Team members are working to increase parent participation in Community Engagement Team (CET). Next Meeting Tuesday, February 26, 2019.
