5 Scientific Notation When writing a number in scientific notation:
A number that is greater than ten (10) will have a positive exponent A number that is less than one (1) will have a negative exponent

Positive exponent: multiply by the number of factors of 10 represented by the exponent. 3.6 x 105 = 3.6 x 10,000 = 360,000 number greater than one
