2. Getting into power
In 1301 with the death of Andras III the lineage of the Árpád dynasty ended
Crowned in 1310

Defeats Matthew Chak in 1321 (Rozgony)

3. Strengthening the power
Donating properties to Lackfi and Garai families.
Banderial army = the baron’s troops
1322: The royal residence moves to Visegrad.
1330: Felician Zach failed to assassinate the king -> cruel punishment.

4. Economic Measures Royal right to collect taxes
He helped the development of mine. (Did not allow to take gold and silver abroad.)
Tax of gates (every property above a certain size of gate had to pay it)
In 1325 started to mint the Anjou forint (with the Anjou lily)

5. Foreign policy
Two aims guided him:the repossession of his family’s dynastic relaitionships and Hungary’s influence in the South.
His campaign against the Havasalföld voivod ended failure (Posada).
He did not manage to have his rule acknowledged in Croatia and Dalmacia.

6. The meeting of three kings at Visegrág 1335
Charles Robert wanted good relationships with Luxembourgs in Bohemia and the Lokietek family in Poland
Charles’s good relations with both countries eclipsed, by the animosity between the Bohemians and the Poles=> they organized the meeting

7. The meeting of Visegrád 1335.
