3 PGL Representative Dedicated PGL Representative with every group, providing full support and assistance PGL provides a dedicated Representative per coach or air group. All our reps are carefully selected and undertake our rigorous training process The Rep will stay with you and work with your group throughout the week. Their role is to assist and support you in the running of the course. They will liaise with the suppliers in resort to ensure all activities and arrangements that have been pre-booked by the head office go ahead smoothly. They will source all local information and arrange any additional out of house evening activities that you would like to do. They are also prepared to run a full week of in-house evening activities should your group require this. Your Representative will discuss this programme with you on arrival in resort. The Rep is also there to assist you and act as the liaison with any medical facilities (Doctors, Hospitals etc). As such, we will endeavour to provide you with a Rep who has a close ‘fit’ with your group i.e. can work well with you and your group to ensure the best course. Bearing this is mind, please do not hesitate to request the type of Rep you would prefer on your Questionnaire and we will do our best! Please be aware that our PGL Representatives cannot take responsibility for your group at any time and will request that a teacher is present at all activities and evening entertainment. If there are any issues during your stay, we want to be the first to hear about it. Please speak to your PGL representative so that we can try to rectify any problem on the spot.

4 Learning Outside the Classroom
Personal development: organisation, responsibility & confidence. Communication – no phones, learn a little Italian! New skills – or experiencing different environments to practise & develop skills. Team work – all about this! Cross-curricular enrichment – those of you studying GCSE PE could possibly use skiing as a sport – liaise with Miss Rainbow or Mr Armer. PGL is a signatory of the DCSF Learning Outside the Classroom manifesto which promotes learning beyond the classroom as being an essential part of learning and personal development for every pupil and student whatever their age, ability or circumstances. All PGL Ski courses are designed to motivate young people to become increasingly independent and to foster a range of skills and personal development. There are many education benefits including: - the opportunity to learn and improve a new skill, practising regularly over a sustained period - personal and social development in a residential setting - links with national curriculum requirements - opportunities for using as part of GCSE PE programme - environmental awareness - the experience of unfamiliar surroundings - cultural and linguistic experience of travelling to a foreign country - opportunity to get involved in healthy, outdoor activity - accessible to everyone, including children with disabilities

5 Travel Arrangements Departing Garstang
Students arriving at GCA: 01:45 – 6th April (Early hours on Saturday!) Coach departing at GCA: 02:00 Check in time at Heathrow Terminal 5: 08:15 Departure time from Heathrow: 10:15 (Flight no: BA574) Arrival at Milan Linate Airport: 13:15 Arrival at Hotel Kapriol: 18:00 In order to make the journey pass more quickly, it is a good idea to take books, games, cards, mp3 players. DVD’s etc., but please no large stereos! We also recommend that you bring your own choice of DVD’s / videos. We suggest to parents that they supply picnics, snacks etc. for the outward journey especially if travelling a considerable distance to the channel port. Regular stops will be made en route, but service areas can be expensive. Taking a picnic enables party members to save their money for the return journey. Foreign currency (Euros) or Swiss Francs will be required for stops abroad. N.B. Meals en route to and from the resort are not included in the course cost. There will be space for one piece of luggage (soft holdall type bag, not a suitcase) per person plus a small piece of hand luggage. It is also a good idea to take a pillow onto the coach for the overnight journey. Please ensure that pupils plan their packing so that everything they need on the journey is taken on board at the outset. We strongly recommend that passengers remain in their seats with their seatbelts on, whilst the coach is in motion. We also recommend seating a member of staff at the rear of the coach to enable you to enforce this. Recent surveys show that the greatest risk of injury during coach travel is from passengers not being in their seats. This, not surprisingly, is highlighted in student travel. Injuries are caused by falls, slips and trips whilst the coach is under sharp braking or acceleration. All our UK coaches are equipped with lap belts. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE LAW IN FRANCE NOW STATES THAT AN ADULT MUST BE SEATED AT EACH EXIT DURING TRAVEL THROUGH FRANCE.

6 Travel Arrangements Return Journey – 13th April
Departure from Hotel Kapriol: 07:45 Check in at Milan Linate: 12:00 (Flight no: BA575) Departure from Milan Linate: 14:00 Arrival at Heathrow Terminal: 15:00 Arrival at GCA: 21:00 approx.

7 No phones/technology For travelling, students will be allowed their phones/iPads/tablets to watch films or play games etc. If they choose to bring these items, whilst travelling, they have FULL responsibility for them. Once the coach starts to climb to the mountain area in Italy, we’ll come along the bus and collect the technology and have it locked in a safe over the course of the week. Students will get items back the evening before to charge for the return journey. Portable chargers may be useful if they have access to one.

QUALIFIED INSTRUCTORS In accordance with STF guidelines, at each of our destinations all instructors will be qualified according to local and national regulations, and approved by the Director of the local snow sport school. INSTRUCTOR RATIOS FOR SKIING AND SNOWBOARDING Our prices are calculated on a ratio of 1:12 for skiing. For snowboarding ratios are 1:8 for beginner groups, or 1:10 for other groups. These ratios do not allow for mixed abilities, therefore we recommend party leaders check the ability of their group before travel. Extra instructors can be arranged at an additional cost.
