2. I. A Total War
A. The Great War starts effecting all citizens of the world
B. To pay for the war, countries issue war bonds (I.O.U’s from gov)
C. Gov’ts told factories to produce only war munitions and every citizen was put to work, esp. women, building weapons in factories
1. Many women also went out to the front to serve as nurses
D. Countries start devoting all resources to the war & must ration goods when supplies are low
E. To rally citizens & colonies propaganda was widely used

3. What is Propaganda?
information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view.
Repetition - a message must be continuously propagated in order to take hold within the collective consciousness.
Simplicity - The message must be designed in such a way that it appeals to or is quickly understood by the lowest common intellectual denominator of the collective. The simple lie always conquers the complex truth.
Imagery - The most powerful propaganda is embedded within appealing imagery (could be pictorial or descriptive).  This is why movies and music are such potent forms of propaganda.
Sentiment - The message must contain as little detail as possible, and instead be designed in such a way that it appeals to some strong emotion or sentiment—such as sex or sympathy.
