Eli Whitney Interchangeable parts – all parts are made to an exact standard and could be used in various ways Whitney wanted to create interchangeable parts to increase production/speed.

7 So what? Cotton Gin: Profit of cotton skyrocketed
Many southern planters began to depend on cotton as their only major crop Planters wanted more land to grow larger crops of cotton, began spreading west More enslaved Africans were brought to harvest the cotton Americans had expected slavery to fade away, but it more than doubled in 30 years.
