Purpose Create free-to-read digital library Create test bed for technologies Scan more than a million books National Science Foundation says MBP has succeeded Subsequent entry of Google and OCA implies the task has been accomplished

4 Collection Development 2006
Created National Agriculture Library (NAL) specifications for Million Book Project Assembled and shipped a large container of books to Shenzhen; expect to send another shipment soon Entered into negotiations with Qatar Foundation to digitize and make available via the Million Book Project the contents of the Heritage Collection Library of Qatar Continue to build relationships with other US libraries to contribute materials to the project. To date, Johns Hopkins, Molloy College, NAL and others have contributed materials to the project. We have verbal commitments from Cornell, NAL and Oregon Sate University to contribute additional materials.

5 Technical Milestones 2006 OCLC Data Transfer
Created new logon accounts for project participants to allow downloading MARC record for each book Currently troubleshooting OCLC connection speeds Data Transfer Received 2 TB of data from Chinese partners; waiting for access to data at CMU site Transferred data to NAL partners; waiting for feedback on data quality from NAL
