3 World War II -Europe August 1939 Germany and the Soviet Union sign a non-aggression pact September 1939 Germany invades Poland US passes Neutrality act of 1939 By mid 1940 Germany controls most of western Europe July 1940 Germany attacks Great Britain Germany, Italy and Japan form the Axis Alliance in September 1940 Germany and the Axis attacks the Soviet Union in June of 1941 Blitzkreig Lightning attacks quickly overruns Belgium and France Battle of Britain is primarily an air war Lasts from the July to October, Despite tremendous losses Great Britain is not defeated.
