This year’s edition has been delayed, but is being printed now and it will be published in about 3 weeks time. It contains 13 chapters, written by subject experts inside Eurostat and DG Regional Policy. 4 Regional and Urban Statistics
New in the 2008 edition: Data coverage from the 27 EU Member states as well as the candidate and EFTA-countries (whenever regional data is available). We have two new chapters in this edition: Sectoral productivity and Labour costs, and the chapter on Health is reappearing again . 5 Using the NUTS 2006/EU-27 classification
The 2008 edition is using the revised NUTS classification that entered into force on the 1 January 2008. You can find the revised list of all NUTS regions in this publication called “Regions in the European Union”. 2-3 October 2008 Regional and Urban Statistics Working Party Meeting

6 The candidate and EFTA countries…
For the candidate and EFTA countries the regions are called “Statistical regions” and follow the same principal rules as the NUTS regions. 8 Chapter 7: Sectoral productivity
The chapter gives us a detailed analysis of the regional differences in productivity (GVA per person employed) in a number of business sectors. The text concentrates on the financial intermediation and business sector (NACE J and K) as well as the industry sector (NACE C to E). 2-3 October 2008 Regional and Urban Statistics Working Party Meeting

Chapter 8: Labour costs The chapter on Labour costs examine “Hourly labour costs” and “Average hours actually worked” (as in this map), but exceptionally by NUTS 1 regions since Eurostat don’t have more detailed regional data for this subject. Chapter 13: Agriculture This year’s chapter on Agriculture focus on livestock statistics in terms of major types of farm animals (especially pigs, sheep and cows) in the European regions and with specific attention to the dairy industry.
