2 South Dedham Parish Dedham is known as the mother of 15 towns
Norwood is one of those towns Locate Norwood on the map

3 Ezra Morse Most of you know where Hawes pool is located in Norwood
Beside the pool is a stream that runs from Ellis Pond through South Norwood This stream was the reason that a man named Ezra Morse came to South Dedham Parish

4 Morse’s Mill Ezra Morse had a saw mill in Dedham which required the use of a lot of water The farmers in Dedham also needed to use the water for their farms so the people of Dedham had to make a decision Ezra Morse was relocated to South Dedham which is now called South Norwood That area of town is called Morse Hill

5 Aaron Guild Aaron Guild was a farmer who lived in the area where the Norwood Morrill Memorial Library is located He fought in the Revolutionary War

7 Paul Ellis Paul Ellis had a tavern in South Dedham
His tavern drew people to our area as a meeting place It later served as a home for the new Universalist Church

8 The Dean Family The Dean Family had many members who settled near Dean Street, Pleasant Street and Route 1 This is one of the original Dean houses which has been restored

9 The Norfolk County Railroad
The railroad brought the industrial age to the village of South Dedham Some industries included a tannery, blacksmiths, feed stores and more mills.

10 George Winslow George Winslow married Olive Smith whose family owned a tannery Smith’s family taught George all about tanning and eventually the Smith and Winslow tannery at the end of Endicott Street Eventually Lyman Smith built his own tannery near Railroad Avenue

11 George Willett This picture of Willett Pond is also known as New Pond
It is located right beside St. Timothy’s Church It was named in honor of George Willett who was responsible for many developments in Norwood
