6 SWBAT draft an introductory paragraph to their Argumentative essays by including a well-developed thesis statement and hook. Example introduction: (BASED ON ANOTHER TOPIC) Mount Everest is a frozen graveyard, with the bodies of dead climbers abandoned on its glaciers for the past six decades. Despite this, adventurers from around the world continue to climb and attempt to summit. People are debating if whether or not the adventure is worth it. In “Dangers on Everest,” James White discusses why no one should be climbing Everest, and in “An Icy Accomplishment,” Jon Snow praises those who are brave enough to climb the mountain, listing all the benefits of this adventure. No matter the person’s goal, and the possible rewards for getting to the summit, people should not climb this mountain because mountain sicknesses can cause permanent damage and if one dies on the mountain, his/her body stays there, forever.

In an argumentative essay, your thesis statement should be your claim and reasons. Don’t use “I think.” Instead, simply state your opinion with two reasons.
