Agenda Introduction Effects – How Does Habitat Loss Affect Mother Nature? Causes – Contributing Factors To Habitat Loss Definition : Process & Example Process Success Criteria – At A Glance Conclusion

Introduction – Habitat destruction It is the process in which the natural habitat is rendered functionally unable to support the species present.

Habitat destruction vastly increases an area's vulnerability to natural disasters like flood and drought, crop failure, etc. The loss of trees from the tropical rainforests alone represents a substantial diminishing of the earths ability to produce oxygen and use up carbon dioxide. Effects

The loss of biodiversity may not directly affect humans, but the indirect effects of losing many species as well as the diversity of ecosystems in general are enormous. When biodiversity is lost, the environment loses many species that provide valuable and unique roles to the ecosystem.

Human impact on terrestrial and marine natural resources results in marine and coastal degradation. Population growth, urbanization, industrialization and tourism are all factors. Forest loss and degradation is mostly caused by the expansion of agricultural land, intensive harvesting of timber, wood for fuel and other forest products, as well as overgrazing. Causes

What is a Process ? Process Input(s) {Man, Machine, Material} Tools Techniques Output(s) Process Success criteria: Metrics to assess quality of the output

Example of a Process : Effluent treatment Effluent treatment Lake water with solid wastes / Treatment Plant/ Operator Flow meters / pH meters Treated water Filtration/ Heating/ Neutralisation / Precipitation Process Success criteria: pH value Chlorine content Viscosity

Sl. No. Process Success Criteria How To Measure/ Indicators 1 Afforestation No. Of Trees Per Sq. Km Surface Temperature At Mean Sea Level Concentration Of CO2 In Atmosphere. 2 Strict Laws Must Be Implemented To Curb Habitat Destruction Healthy Number Of Animal And Plant Species Can Be Observed. 3 Protection Of The Remaining Intact Sections Of The Natural Habitat Delicate Balance In The Ecosystem Is Being Maintained 4 Conduct Awareness Campaigns About Ill Effects Of Overpopulation Decrease In Global Warming Levels. Sustainable Management Can Be Employed To Ensure Better Living. Process Success Criteria – At a glance
