RCACF Flypaper The Official Monthly Newsletter
Remote Control Assoc of Central Florida November, 2015 Cover photo: The votes are in. RCACF takes best in choice poll. The votes are in, and in an on-line poll the RCACF came out as best in choice. Some of the categories were - Friendliest club members, ability to handle any sized aircraft from park fliers to giant scale jets. Other points to choose from were runway size and availability of shaded pit area for members to mingle and work on their aircraft. Its pretty cool being part of a club that has only gotten better and better over the years. It’s kind of like a fine wine. This is a due to all the great members we have. The page went on to say that the friendliness and willing to help attitude made our club stand out amongst the rest. Thanks to all of you that do your part in creating this excellent ambiance. Keep up the good work, play safe and of course, have fun.

My wife and I are celebrating her birthday and our 53rd wedding anniversary on the island of Maui. We are having a great time. We are planning to go to the RC flying field to check it out. Dues Reduction An amendment to the Constitution has to be published in Appendix I of our by-laws regarding the changes to the membership dues and the annual dues for our elected officers. We will make these changes and they will be published in the Fly Paper and posted at the Information Center. Thanks to Don Prasky for his continued input in these matters. By-Laws Update In the next month or so, we will be updating our by-laws. There will be some changes and many items that no longer apply. Some additional verbiage is needed to include our field partner and the sharing of the field. After the updates are completed, the Board will review them. After the approval of the membership, the updated by-laws will be published. Safety Officer Eric Barnett has resigned his position as Safety Officer for personal reasons. We want to thank Eric for a job well done. We hope he continues to support our Club. Safety Office Wanted We are seeking candidates for the position of Safety Officer for our Club. Thanks to David Smith with At Home Lawn Mower Repair as he pressure washed the cement slabs in the Pitt area. I wanted to be sure he received credit in the Fly Paper as he is not a club member and he did the work at no charge. Wow… Not even a club member and gave his time and effort to help us beautify our great club? How cool is that! Be sure to visit his web site as they provide on site service for all makes and models of lawn mowers, riding tractors, zero turn mowers, pressure washers, generators and small outboard motors and all work is performed by a qualified technician with more than 20 years experience in small engine repair.

Bill Freeland Bill Freeland Treasurer
Your RCACF finances are in good shape. This means that with current membership we will be able to meet our quarterly rent payments for the near future. I was in NYC for vacation and got to witness a test run for the president to come to NYC. 2 transport heli's escorted by 3 Marine Ospreys. The flew directly overhead on landing approach. These things are huge, loud and very impressive. The sound they make is like no other. If you have never seen one up close, please make sure you get a chance to do so. There is usually a good chance one will show up at most Airshows in Florida. The Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey is an American multi-mission, tiltrotor military aircraft with both a vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL), and short takeoff and landing (STOL) capability. It is designed to combine the functionality of a conventional helicopter with the long-range, high-speed cruise performance of a turboprop aircraft. The Sikorsky SH-3 Sea King (company designation S-61) is an American twin-engined anti-submarine warfare (ASW) helicopter designed and built by Sikorsky Aircraft. A landmark design, it was the world's first amphibious helicopter and one of the first ASW rotorcraft to use turboshaft engines.[2] Introduced in 1961, it served in the United States Navy as a key ASW and utility asset for several decades before being replaced by the non-amphibious Sikorsky SH-60 Seahawk in the 1990s. Halloween Night Fun Fly
Halloween Night Fun Fly was held last night (Halloween night) and was a great success. There were some 20 pilots flying everything from planes, to quads and even a ghost showed up to haunt the night. The moon held off rising which made for a nice dark sky to contrast the planes covered in LEDs. It added a whole new dimension in RC flying. The temperature was perfect and a nice breeze kept off the mosquitoes, well.. we did have to use a little spray repellant, but nothing like it usually is at night. Thanks to Dave Sirak for suggesting and CD’ing the event. I know that Dave and I both only expected a couple of people would show up, but to our surprise it was just the opposite. I think it was the idea of coming to the field when it wasn’t so hot, or maybe just wanting to do something a little different. Not only were members of the club here, but we also had visitors and spectators that either saw the fliers or saw the UFOs streaking across the sky. The interesting picture to the left was a 30 second time laps of 3 planes having fun in the night. The picture above is a goblin that Dave Sirak made. It was lifted into the sky by his quadcopter. Here are just some of the cool LED covered planes that graced the sky. Can’t wait till next year!

Monthly 50/50 Raffle Congrats to Arnie Weiner as he won the 50/50 raffle at last months club meeting. Looks to me like John (our most honored President) doesn’t want to let go if the cash. Another great reason to come to your clubs monthly meetings. Not only will you be glad you got out of the house, but you might win some spending money for when you pass GravesRC on the way home. Monthly Airplane Raffle At last month’s meeting, Michael Gibilisco won an E-flight Night VisionAire. This plane is specifically designed for sport pilots who want a 3D experience with more options. Based on the groundbreaking ParkZone® VisionAire design, the E-flite NIGHT VisionAire aerobat includes intense LED lights that give the internal structure a brilliant glow. Make sure you attend on Nov 14th at 10AM to get your chance at the plane below. Next Airplane Raffle This month we have an exciting new plane to raffle off. It’s a multi-billion dollar X-Wing. Sorry, but we were not able to purchase the raffle plane before this publication, but one thing I do know.. and, it’s NOT going to be the X-Wing fighter to the left. Only Luke Skywalker can fly one of those and we don’t have a billion dollars. Make sure you attend the November club meeting to get your chance to win. Next meeting is Nov 14th at 10 AM in our beautiful club house center field.

Guest speakers Keith Bruno, Drone Academy USA delivered a presentation to the membership on current and expected UAS (drone) operations. They provide instruction and guidance to companies that have the need to fly a UAV as part of their business and want to be legal. It’s not like flying a drone at our field, but many legal and liability concerns when used for such things like TV news, or Crop inspection. Any legit business wishing to make a profit in this new way must be prepared. Drone Academy is dedicated to providing the most comprehensive and thorough UAV pilot training program. Gary Freeman Sr, made a presentation to hold a two day national pylon racing event on December 5th and 6th 2015 with a setup day for Friday December 4th. Club will receive $80.00 per entrant. Club will be asked to provide 20 volunteer workers. This has always been a great event. Ultra fast special designed airplanes streaking by at break-neck speeds. If you have never been out to see these amazing pilots do their thing, then you MUST come out and experience the thrill. The absolute best fun and exhilaration is being part of the ground or timing crew. Everyone that has ever worked this event has come away with the same reaction, and that was “WOW”. Please sign up to be there and help out. You won’t regret it.
