3. What is assessment?
Activities to identify what students know, understand and are able to do
It is used to track progress of students from one point of their learning journey to another
Supports
teachers to evaluate learning and the impact of their own teaching
students to understand how well they have learned what has been taught
parents to stay informed about the achievement, progress and wider outcomes of their child
plan and modify teaching and learning programmes for individual students, groups of students, and the class as a whole
pinpoint students’ strengths so that both teachers and students can build on them
identify students’ learning needs in a clear and constructive way so they can be addressed
day-to-day activities, such as learning conversations
a simple mental note taken by the teacher during observation
