5 Serve the LORD with gladness; Come before His presence with singing.
Psalm 100:2 Serve the LORD with gladness; Come before His presence with singing. Hymns Invitation Red Songbook - Supplemental

6 Godliness With Contentment 1 Timothy 6:6-11
What is contentment? It might be described as satisfaction; it is not just happiness, but a pleasure in either the things or circumstances we are in. If someone is NOT content, they crave change or more; if they are content, adding more to them is irrelevant.

7 What Would Make You Content?
NONE OF THESE THINGS will make you content! A new home? A new job? A little more money? Better health? More free time? Most people have an eye on something that they believe will make them content. But if Scriptures are true, NONE of these things will bring contentnment. Only a spiritual attitude can bring contenment

8 Learn to be Content Contentment cannot be “have or have not” It is a condition of the mind and heart It is separate from physical circumstances The story is told about a pilot who always looked down intently on a certain valley in the Appalachians when the plane passed overhead. One day his co-pilot asked, “What’s so interesting about that spot?” The pilot replied, “See that stream? Well, when I was a kid I used to sit down there on a log and fish. Every time an airplane flew over, I would look up and wish I were flying... Now I look down and wish I were fishing.” It is always tempting to think that others have it better than we do, and that if we just had “a little more” everything would be fine. But contentment cannot be achieved by increasing possessions. Nothing will ever be enough.

9 Learn to be Content Contentment does not just happen Learning to be content: Philippians 4:11-12 Contentment in WHATEVER state we exist Paul’s contentment was while a prisoner to Roman soldiers, enclosed in some small apartment, in touch with only a few friends who made an effort to discover him, away from the happy scenes of earlier years, and anticipating Nero’s trial. In this condition he has learned to be content

10 Pursuing Contentment God wants you to be content 1. It is a commandment – Hebrews 13:5 Heb 13:5 Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, "I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU, NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU,“

11 Pursuing Contentment God wants you to be content 1. It is a commandment – Hebrews 13:5 2. It reflects our hope – 1 Peter 3:14-15 1Pe 3:14 But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, you are blessed. AND DO NOT FEAR THEIR INTIMIDATION, AND DO NOT BE TROUBLED, 15 but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence;

12 Pursuing Contentment God wants you to be content 1. It is a commandment – Hebrews 13:5 2. It reflects our hope – 1 Peter 3: It protects us from sin – Luke 3:14 Lu 3:14 Some soldiers were questioning him, saying, "And what about us, what shall we do?" And he said to them, "Do not take money from anyone by force, or accuse anyone falsely, and be content with your wages."

13 Inhibiting Contentment
Selfishness inhibits contentment James 3:14-18 Self-centered egotistical people score lowest on any test for measuring happiness. From a Duke University study on “peace of mind.” Jas 3:14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and so lie against the truth.15 This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, demonic.16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing.17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy.18 And the seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

14 Inhibiting Contentment
Selfishness inhibits contentment Vain comparison inhibits contentment 1 Corinthians 12:15-18 “Don’t be guilty of comparing your accomplishments or performances with those of any other preacher.  To do so is to lessen your own effectiveness and frustrate the grace of God.  You are you, and to attempt to become more is to become less.”—Dr Raymond Barber 1Co 12:15 If the foot says, "Because I am not a hand, I am not a part of the body," it is not for this reason any the less a part of the body. 16 And if the ear says, "Because I am not an eye, I am not a part of the body," it is not for this reason any the less a part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where would the sense of smell be? 18 But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired.

15 Inhibiting Contentment
Selfishness inhibits contentment Vain comparison inhibits contentment Holding grudges inhibits contentment Hebrews 12:15 Luke 12:13 Heb 12:15 See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be defiled; Lu 12:13 ¶ Someone in the crowd said to Him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me."14 But He said to him, "Man, who appointed Me a judge or arbitrator over you?“15 Then He said to them, "Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions."

18 Why Not Be Content? If it is your choice: Why choose to be dissatisfied? Why not choose to be content?
