2 Recruit to Retain When do we start insuring our members are members of the Knights of Columbus for a life-time?

3 Recruit to Retain Before they become members?
When they become members? When they no longer pay dues? When they no longer participate in council activities? No longer come to meetings?

5 Recruit to Retain Answer is: “Before they even become members”.
How do they perceive us as individuals, as family members, as Catholics, as members of the Knights of Columbus?

6 Recruit to Retain How do we recruit to retain our members?
Get to know the prospect, his family, where he works, his interests, common friends. Be ready to answer objections and excuses. Be genuinely interested in him and his family

7 Recruit to Retain Set time to meet with him and his spouse.
Allow adequate time to share some history of our Order, touch on insurance protection, share activities in which the council is actively engaged. Find his interests and goals

8 Invite the spouse to hear your presentation.

9 Anytime is a good time to talk up the Knights of Columbus.

10 Recruit to Retain Gather as much information as possible about your prospect so that a “best fit” for him can be matched with your council activities..

17 Recruit to Retain Be proud of your council and who you are. Prove it by wearing shirts, caps, etc at all activities and events. Keep the cost reasonable. Consider providing a shirt to all new and reinstated members..

18 Recruit to Retain The ceremonial degrees must be done with professionalism, be impressionable, and on a timely basis.

19 Recruit to Retain Their first council meeting must be welcoming, enjoyable and gratifying. The regulars must recognize every new member and greet them individually.

20 Recruit to Retain Get to know the new members.
Include them in your conversations. Have social time after the meeting with refreshments and snacks.

21 Recruit to Retain Never let anyone leave your meeting feeling like he wasn’t needed or wanted.

22 Recruit to Retain Assign all your members to a service committee of interest to them: Fundraising Labor intensive activities Public relations, media etc Recruiting, Membership interests “KEEP THE COMMITTEE ACTIVE”

23 Recruit to Retain The Council Program Director is meeting with his directors to plan a full year activities plan. Include the “new guy” in the meetings even if he is not yet an office holder….

24 Recruit to Retain Communicate with your members often, let them know you care about them. Birthday or anniversary wish Thank you notes, Congratulate!

25 Recruit to Retain OK. The member moved away or changed phone number. Now what? Check with the parish Check Google or Facebook Call or Rod Hofschulte and have him search for location and phone numbers on the internet…

26 Recruit to Retain All is going good but sometimes things happen that disrupt the nice even keel a member has with his council. Member moves Become disabled Leaves the church Gets divorced

27 When a member moves utilize the Moving Notice
Forward to the Financial Secretary or Grand Knight of a council in that area and ask him to contact the member for a possible transfer.

28 Disability Waiver Form #1831
Application for Relief from Payment of Council Dues and Supreme and State Per Capita Taxes Completed by member, attested to by GK and FS Must renew annually.

29 Recruit to Retain Member is no longer Catholic:
See By-Laws - Section 168.1 “ Any member of this Order shall, ipso facto, forfeit his membership in the Order…”who shall fail to remain Catholic in union with the Holy See. Financial Secretary/Faithful Comptroller Handbook Regarding Suspension for Lack of Practical Catholicity: Supreme must have letter on file signed by Chaplain/Parish Priest or the member attesting to his failure to remain Catholic and a Form #100 must accompany the letter. This transaction will not count against Supreme Council Award quotas
