2 ABORIGINAL PEOPLE OF NORTH AMERICA
Climate ABORIGINAL PEOPLE OF NORTH AMERICA -Lived in different geographic areas       -woodlands, grasslands, mountain regions, isolated coastal areas and storm-swept islands -climate and resources were the most important factors in the development of aboriginal cultures  - other cultural areas of north America are classified as plateau, plains, subarctic, arctic and eastern woodlands -The culture extended more then miles from California to panhandle Alaska 

3 Climate  -Temperature is temperate and moist -Abundant rainfall as much as 100 inches a year and lush evergreen forests - Japan current warms the ocean and the ocean in turn moistens the prevailing winds. -Oceans, rivers and forest -provided food supply of fish and game

4 westcoast cultural group
-Without agriculture and with minimal gathering of plants, still had surplus food -salmon -Made up of smaller indigenous nations - all spoke the same language or a dialect -Artifacts of the Westcoast Nations, a book by Hilary Stewart -describes geographic locations and accomplishments of aboriginal peoples -northern part was Tlingit, from Yakutat to Cape Town -western part was the home of Haida -most lived at Queen Charlotte Islands, some at Prince of Wales Islands -amongst sheltered waterways

5 Nations of the Northwest coast
Archaeologists believe that they stayed at same territories since they were first found 3000 years ag[/ '? Was likely a starting point for migration of successful groups to the east and south              -19 distinct languages, complexity of languages=“old area.”

-Remembrance Day - Wedding - Funerals -potlatch -naming -Birth -Rights of passage

7 The Steady supply of food
- The steady supply of food is a building material for roomy houses and seaworthy boats - Gave the aboriginal people of the west coast an opportunity to become an affluent and complex society -Their culture revolved around a potlatch -Provided food fish and game

8 How does the environment effect their culture?
 - It effect their environment because over time the cultures put their own influences on the landscape around them.   - They also had to migrate from to the south and east because of how complex the region was sometimes because of the cold winter.  - They spoke Nineteen aboriginal languages. The different cultural characteristic effect the environment.
