Overview of Study: Sixty-seven percent of African American homes are single parent (National KIDS COUNT, 2014) with 49.8 percent being matriarchal (The Heritage Foundation, 2014). Parenting literature to date has to a large extent been based on research with mothers (Doyle, et al., 2015).

Purpose of Study: The purpose of this study is to bring about an awareness of African American fathers’ parenting practices and the effects on their adolescent sons.

4 Denied Access: Fathers are Parents, Too!
Methodology: For purposes of the study, African American adolescent males between the ages of 12 – 17 will be interviewed on their fathers’ parenting practices. Adolescent males with and without biological fathers in the homes will be interviewed to contrast and compare parenting practices of their fathers.
