Exam Preparation AQA Food Preparation and Nutrition Parent information evening 2019 EXAM: 10th June

2 The EXAM: Exam is worth 60% of the overall GCSE grade.
NEA tasks make up the other 40% The exam starts with 20 multiple choice questions There are then 6 longer answer questions usually ranging from marks…. These will be on a variety of topics all of which will have been covered through revision sessions. EXAM DATE: Monday 10th June AM

3 revision As a class we have throughout this year been working on various revision areas, we will begin working on these full time: Week Beginning: 18th March as we will have finished all work on NEA tasks. Students should bring textbooks to the revision lessons. I will also have a pack of revision resources for students when this begins. In lessons students should have: blue/ black pen. Highlighter. Textbook. Revision pack- this will be issued to students shortly. Any homework/ exam questions that they were asked to prepare for the lesson.

4 What does the exam cover?
Nutrients Nutritional needs and health Food science Cooking of food Functional and chemical properties of food Food spoilage Principles of food safety Factors affecting food choice British and international cuisines Sensory evaluation Food provenance: Environmental impact and sustainability Processing and production

5 What are we doing in school
We will be revising all of these topics leading up to the exam The Friday before the exam when we would normally have a lesson (p4) 6th June I will be holding a drop in Q&A lesson last minute exam practice Exam packs- to include exam practice books to be given to students Exam practice- papers and question styles that students have struggled with. Drop in sessions will continue on a Day 6 and will cover particular topics- in N8 I have already started sharing resources on SLE for students to revise from/ make notes.

6 What can you do as parents to support your student?
Encourage students to make best use of their lesson time. We will be covering a lot of the topics in revision lessons Students will be given a timetable of when our lessons are and what the intended topic is for this lesson. Students may be set exam questions to complete after the lesson to help apply their learning. Students have access to the resources available to them on the SLE please make sure that students are accessing this and using these.

7 Support for students resources on SLE- resources compiled in the food area of the Student Learning Environment. Including links to videos and online resources. Textbook – Pages of support in student text book, the textbook is also a great source for students research for either task. After school drop in session run once a cycle. Websites: Seneca learning (students will need to sign up) you tube- has various videos around the different topic areas (Miss Hocking: Nutrition, Protien, Carbohydrate…) and Bitesize videos for a basic overview of the different topics. Staff- Mrs Marshall or myself (Miss Tume) are available to support students who might need extra support. Students are aware that they can me at any point
