We have two very different transitions that have taken place in NZ with the result being very different age structures.
This gives rise to a number of challenges and opportunities.
Median age in 2013: Just under 24 years cf 38 nationally.
NZ TFR high by OECD standards – 2.06 (cf OECD average 1.7). Israel highest at 3.0; France about 2.0. Maori TFR now 2.51

2013 Maori ERP is 692,000
in 2011 the number of Māori living in Queensland (n=48,821) was about the same as the estimated number in Northland (n=50,800, medium series) and was higher than the estimated Māori population in 10 of New Zealand’s 16 regions.

Many of the inequalities that we observe are replicated within Te Iwi Maori; within our own whanau, extended and immediate.
