1 Organization for Economic cooperation and development (OCED) Nicole and Jayce

2 History – OEEC created in 1948 to rebuild after the war. – Started with 18 European countries – Canada and U.S became members and signed OECD convention in Dec, 14 1960. – OCED was officially created Sept,30 1961. – Now there are 34 member countries of OCED

3 Purpose – OECD uses its wealth of information on a broad range of topics to help governments foster prosperity and fight poverty through economic growth and financial stability. – Helps ensure the environmental implications of economic and social development are taken into account.

4 Controversy/News – Taxes on employment continue to rise in London : On average the tax wedge rose to 36.0% of the cost of employing an unmarried worker without a child, from 35.9% in 2013. – The OECD has released an analysis of Canada's economy – sees economic growth strengthening – the report contains warnings about the housing market, growing inequality and a growing regional economic divide. – inequality is growing in Canada at a considerably faster pace than the OECD average. Disposable income inequality grew 11 per cent in Canada since 1995, compared to an average of 2 per cent, making Canada the 12th most unequal country among OECD members. – But the OECD notes much of the increase took place in the late 1990s. Greater inequality in wages paid, combined with fewer government transfers of wealth, contributed to the trend, the report said.
